Getting small shocks from taps or appliances? Lights that brighten/dim when heavy loads start? That’s often poor earthing or missing bonding. In Harare’s mixed grid conditions, a solid earth is the foundation of electrical safety and stable equipment.

We test, repair and install compliant earthing systems — earth electrodes/rods, earth bars, tails and clamps — then bond all the right metalwork (geyser, pipes, gate/garage motors, satellite dishes, structural steel) so faults clear fast and RCDs trip when they should.

If you’ve added an inverter, generator or solar, earthing must be set up correctly or you’ll have nuisance tripping, tingles on metalwork and risky fault paths. We configure earthing for hybrid systems, add SPDs (surge protection) and verify polarity and impedance.

Lightning is part of our climate. Without proper earthing and surge protection, return-of-power spikes and storms can take out TVs, routers, fridges and inverters. We install main-board SPDs and point-of-use protection where it makes sense.

Our work is tidy and measurable: we drive new earth rods (or refurbish existing), test with calibrated instruments, label earth bars and provide a simple report with readings — so you know your protection isn’t just “there”; it’s effective.

We cover Harare suburbs daily — Borrowdale, Mount Pleasant, Avondale, Highlands, Greendale, Marlborough, Westgate, Mabelreign, Chisipite, CBD and surrounds — with practical fixes that make your installation safer and more stable.

FAQs

1) What’s the difference between earthing and bonding?
Earthing connects your installation to the ground via an electrode/rod so fault current has a safe path. Bonding links metal parts (like pipes and geyser casings) together and to earth so there’s no dangerous voltage difference between them. Both work together to prevent shocks.

2) How do you test if my earth is “good”?
We measure earth fault loop impedance and electrode resistance with proper testers, then compare to safe thresholds. If readings are high, we install/extend earth rods, improve connections, and re-test until results are within spec.

3) Will better earthing stop my RCD (earth-leakage) from nuisance tripping?
Often, yes. Poor or shared neutrals, damp outdoor circuits and weak earthing can cause unpredictable trips. We trace the leakage, correct neutral/earth mix-ups, improve insulation resistance and ensure the RCD is correctly rated and wired.

4) Do inverters and generators need special earthing?
They need correct earthing and, in many cases, neutral-earth reference and switching configured properly. We set up earthing for your inverter/generator so protection devices work, and back-feeding or floating neutrals aren’t a risk.

5) Can earthing protect my electronics from surges?
Earthing alone isn’t enough — you also need SPDs (surge protection devices). We fit Type 1/2 main-board SPDs and recommend point-of-use protection for delicate gear. Proper earthing is what lets SPDs safely dump the surge.

6) How long does an earthing/bonding job take?
Most homes are completed in a few hours. Larger or complex sites with long runs or multiple electrodes may take longer. We test before and after so you can see the improvement in the readings.
